Disaster!, ?Swimming? pool started leaking, we were worried it might split and send a tidal wave flooding through the village. Managed to patch it up OK, using glue that works under water, doesn?t look particularly good but it?s done the trick.
Apologies once again for the slow update to the blog, always seem to be doing something else.
Pat, Judith, India plus friend (sorry friend, forgotten your name, hopeless with names I’m afraid), came to stay for a few days at the end of August. They were staying at a villa near to Cahors and popped down to see us. Unfortunately the weather was crap, rainy, misty and not very warm at all. The day they went back the sun came out, it was out before they came, so I think the rain followed them down from Cahors and then back again!
Jan?s Dad and her sister Fiona and niece Samantha have just gone back after spending 10 days here. We all had a great time but the days just seemed to rush by, weather was excellent. We travelled around quite a bit, showing them some of the delights of French living. For Fiona and Samantha it was their first holiday in France, Jan?s Dad had been here over 60 years ago, think he enjoyed more this time round!
On one of our day?s out we went to the ski resort of La Mongie, no snow of course but the views were wonderful. Saw a baby Alpaca just a few minutes after being born (may have been a llama, David Attenborough I?m not!!), it was born within 50 metres of the road and once it could stand it?s mum guided it across the road and further into the mountains. See pictures below.
On another day out , we went to Donjon des Aigles, lots of birds of prey, plus flying display of some of the eagles, vultures etc, well worth a visit, think this picture is a fish eagle (but see previous paragraph!).
Still getting strange creatures in the house and garden (and that?s not counting Fiona!), This preying Mantis was hanging upside own outside the front door recently. I?ve turned it the right way up for all you non Australians!
Rokxy is growing fast, does her best to destroy everything within reach, see photo. She has had 2 nips on her face from JJ, he plays with her and tolerates so much but eventually he just wants to rest. When she ignores his warning growls he puts her in her place. Looks like she has to learn things the hard way! I will add some more pictures of her to the dogblog in the next few days
We had to take JJ to the vet as he had a swollen ear, the vet thought it was probably a nip from Rokxy, it had burst a blood vessel, so he is on tablets for 3 weeks or so. It?s all healing up OK so no surgery for the old boy.
We have more visitors arriving in the next few days. Norman and Alice (who we met when we stayed at David and Pauline?s cottage in Normandie), they are driving down, taking their time travelling over a few days. David and Pauline are also arriving about the same time, they are flying to Toulouse and then hiring a car, when they leave us they are then going on to see some friends who live near the Med.
So all in all we will have had a boozy few weeks by the time David and Pauline go, still it?s great to see everyone and hopefully they will all want to come back again.
We met our next door neighbour for the first time when Jan?s Dad was here. We had decided to take a walk to the village and as we passed her house she invited us all in for a drink. She?s semi-retired but spends some time each year in Paris as a mediator in the courts. She has lived here for 10 years so knows quite a bit of local history and who?s who in the village.
Matt is coming over for a few days in early October, just a flying visit as he can only get a few days off. He has been given temporary promotion to Crew Manager at his old station in Westminister, hoping it will lead to a permanent upgrade. He made the final of London?s Fittest Firefighter for the second year running and despite being fastest in the heats, he made a couple of mistakes that ruined his chances of improving on last years 5th place. Never mind, there?s always next year!
I have made an early New Year?s Resolution to update this blog every weekend, not that weekends are anything special when you are retired of course!
