How time flies, it’s been over 3 weeks since I last updated this blog. We have been working our socks off getting our bedroom finished and sprucing up the hall, stairs, landing and lounge.
But of course the most important thing (for Jan anyway) is the addition to the family. She’s a Labrador (no pedigree though) and called Roxy. We got her from a woman who lives in the Lot department, she rescues unwanted dogs (and their puppies). It was a 250 mile round trip to get her, but she seems worth it!

JJ is a little wary of her, he growls when she chases his legs and tail but generally ignores her. He did try to play a couple of times but then Roxy is frightened by this large black bouncing dog looking as if he’s about to flatten her! I’m sure they’ll be the best of friends in no time.
This picture is of our house and garden, probably taken in the last couple of years, as you can see we have no immediate neighbours. We still can’t get used to being able to play loud music or drill holes in the wall at 11pm without upsetting anyone.
On Sunday 6th August we went to the local “Moutouade” (a local recipe lamb meal), in the square next to the Marie (town hall). Most of the village were there (about 200 people) and we had a great time, 6 courses for the meal, wine included in the price. We arrived at midday, started eating at about 2 and finished at about 6.30, fast food it wasn’t! Got chatting to a few of the locals and also one English guy (Bob) who has lived here for about 15 years.
I had a touch too much red wine to drink (not my fault, one of the local farmers, Jean-Claude, kept topping our glasses up!), needless to say I felt a bit “off” when I got home and had to have a snooze to try to recover. Jan, of course, was fine, I’m the lightweight in this family!
Jan is on the right hand side, 4th along from this end, hiding as usual when her picture is being taken.
There are about 8 English owned houses in the village, mostly residents, not holiday homes. We have deliberately avoided just speaking to English people, I think it is too easy to fall into the “English community” trap, where you are cocooned from needing to speak French. That’s not to say we are avoiding the English but we try to sort things out for ourselves if we can, if that fails, then we shout “HELP” in English!
I had a haircut about 2 weeks ago, asked for a trim and nearly got scalped, good job I didn’t ask for a full haircut I could have ended up looking like Duncan Goodhew! Still, one bonus, I discovered I have ears!!
The next few weeks are going to be fun, lots of visitors, so I expect a fair amount of alcohol will be consumed.
Marc is arriving tomorrow, staying until next Monday, he’s going to help me rip out the downstairs bathroom as it is in dire need of renovating.
Pat, Judith, Mo and family are holidaying in the Lot for a couple of weeks so will be coming to stay for a couple of nights, probably Sunday week.
Jan’s Dad, Fiona and Samantha are here from the 1st to 11th of September.
David and Pauline are here, along with Norman and Alice for a couple of days around the 17th September.
Matt and Debs are over for 4 days from 25th September.
Ray and Trish will be popping down from Normandie sometime in October when the B&B trade quietens down.
Doesn’t look as though we will be getting much decorating done for a while!
No doubt there will be more pictures of Roxy on the next update…..
